Installation Guidelines For Guide Rings (ONK)

Roller and sliding guide rings,which are used with the pipelines help to transport gas, oil, oil products, water and other media. They are mounted between the carrier pipe and its casing. <p The main purpose of ONK is to prevent the contact between the main pipe and the casing, this combined with other measures can prolong the service life for both pipes. The products are installed and maintained according to the rules which are given in sanitary standards and rules # 2.05.06-85 and III-42-80 and in a set of rules 109-34-97.

Installation of guide rings

A project defines the distance which the guide rings should be mounted at from each other. This distance determined the overall number of the rings for an object in a project, and here it is critical to consider the diameter and thickness of pipe walls, type of pipeline and its load, transported media (liquid or gaseous) and an inner diameter of the casing. Guide rings are delivered in sets with ring sectors, fixings and a protective gasket.

An installation procedure for ONK:

• a protective gasket is mouthed on a pre-labeled place for ring installation to protect the pipeline insulation;
• ring sectors are prepared and joined with bolts (nuts are screwed several times), except the last joint, that is the ring is not complete;
• pre-joined ring segments are mounted on a pipe, and the last segments are added;
• all clamp bolts are tightened evenly, so the distance between them (the segments) are equal, and a guide rings is in close contact with the pipe.

When a guide ring is mounted, please check

• the insulation coating of the pipe whether it can withstand high voltage;
• integrity of the anti-corrosion coating of ring segments;
• whether the protective gaskets are symmetrical with regard to the width of the ring segments;
• whether the spacings between the segments are equal in bolt joints when the bolts are tightened;
• whether guide rings clamp the pipe properly.
